How small can the text on my design be?

When you're designing something like a business card or flyer, making sure your text is easy to read is key. If your message gets lost in tiny fonts, it’s likely to be missed altogether – and nobody wants that.

Here’s a quick guide to help you keep things readable:

Business Cards – keep it 6pt or bigger

The absolute minimum font size for business cards is 6pt – but we’d always recommend going a bit larger if you can. Small cards mean small space, so keeping your text clean and clear will make sure your contact details stand out.

? Flyers (and anything bigger) – 8pt minimum

For flyers, posters, or banners, aim for at least 8pt. Again, a slightly larger size will usually work better – especially if your flyer will be read at arm’s length or from a distance.

Bonus tips for readability:

  • Pick a clear font – Fancy or overly decorative fonts might look stylish but can be tricky to read at small sizes.

  • Check your contrast – Make sure your text stands out against the background. Light grey on white? Probably not your best bet.
